Raku altered vase
  • Raku altered vase

His vace was Raku fired in a kiln that I built myself. It was thrown on the pottery wheel an altered when very wet and the middle cut out. When I fired it in my Raku Kiln I applied a slip on the outside and when the temperature reaches 1850 degrees I pulled it out with some tongs and put it in combustible material. Once cool enough to handle I peeled all the slip away and revealed the smoke pattern that penetrated the clay. Please note that Raku Pottery is not food or water safe it is decorative only.
